THE WHEEL OF THE YEAR

How do the Earth’s seasons, or turns on the wheel of the year, inform our culture and how we celebrate the holy days?

The wheel of the year provides a path to embodied awakening through connection with Mother Earth and the natural cycles of waxing and waning; birth, growth, decay, death and rebirth.  This is Earths year that arises from the cyclical movements of the Earth sun, moon and stars, the divine feminine calendar that is marked by the solstices, equinoxes and midpoint, or cross-quarter days. The modern Gregorian calendar dates are marked on the wheel because it helps us modern moms catch the rhythm in sync with our busy modern lives, but eventually the wheels of wisdom become familiar through the turning of the seasons and the natural elements speak to us more clearly. As we celebrate the Earth’s seasonal turns, the knowing deepens in our bones.  By walking with the wheel, we come to live in sync with the Earth, as the moon and sun shift through the zodiac.

Much of the wisdom from our collective is inspired by the wheel as she turns. When we can celebrate Her holy days, aligning with nature’s seasons in this way, it brings about greater alignment and fulfillment in all aspects of our lives. I have found that celebrating the 8 holy days with my family has continually shifted the culture for the better, moving us away from the consumption-based focus into more joyful and meaningful connection.
