FIRST OF MAY! THE GATES OF SUMMER OPEN ON BELTAINE
A Poem for Life this Blessed Beltaine
Baby owls in the nest bless the tree
saying look look at me
Whoooo woo made it through the darkness
and harvested new life
Watch me flap my wings and hear the heavens sing
Serpent king snake
slithers out to greet summer
and protect us from the rattlers.
The pollinators buzz, gifting us all food that matters.
Women and children weave flower crowns
for the May Queen and all of the fae have joined us today!
Alongside her the Green Man and his sacred fire
Calling the solar energy down through his pole
into the Earth, allowing all life to transpire.
Earth whispered to me as the sun rose
"keep your heart close to the Earth and know your worth."
That's all there is to it my sacred daughters.
Self-esteem unlocks the dream.
Love self and let your beauty and abundance blossom
Adorn yourself as the flower that you are
Grown from the seeds of millions of grandmothers' care.
Smile with love as you braid into your hair
blessings and gratitude, and know no fear.
Love and honor this sacred vessel of life
this body, a gift from the heavenly earth
celebrate the knowing of your true worth.
Adorn yourselves dear ones
and attract like the sweetness of honey
Manifest only good and let the summer be sunny.
Dress-up in your crowns
and feel the blessings abound.
It is your divine and bodily knowing
that lights up the path
that keeps all rivers flowing.
Weave the polarities as you weave the ribbons round the May Pole
Sanctifying the marriage that makes all of life WHOLE
the death and the life
the magic and tragic of each person's life
the light and the dark
spirit and earth
winter and summer
masuculine and feminine
Tie them all together my daughter
onto your pole at your sacred center
Dance, weave and sing
for the glory of all -
it is our time now women
No more playing small.
Taste the sweet honey of movement inside
thank the flowers for giving you all their beauty before they die.
See how their death spreads the seeds of life...
The Flower lets go fully at Samhain in order to live again at Beltaine.
Oh sacred flower, beauty of life and death,
Bestow upon this May Queen's crown
your eternal blessings as the Earth's wheel turns round.
Wear your flowers with pride today
this first of May
for you too have now bloomed
From winter's cold darkness, opening to Summer's height in June
You have learned to live and forgive
release, learn and grow
For on the underworld journey, we all must go.
Today May Queens
take it all in
Millions of ancestors dance with your kin
these sacred hearts here that circle your fires
Send loving prayers to nourish
their greatest desires.
Watch the smoke carry the blessing swirling through the air
towards the light of the sun where all becomes one.
Know the dead join us here as it's also Samhain ("Sau-wane" in the south)
as we dance round the fires of Beltane.
Sing and Celebrate life in all her grand beauty
Embody as May Queen
marrying her Green King
sealed with the rite of our sacred duty.
